Dear Friends
Strengthening Communities Review
Nicky Cambridge from the Council has asked us to facilitate a meeting to enable BME communities to participate in the review that they are currently undertaking which involves mapping out engagement activity within the City.
The review will also make recommendations about engagement work within the city and it is therefore important that you participate in the review.
We have agreed to meet with Nicky from Brighton and Hove City Council on Friday 16th July from 12.00noon to 2.00pm here at the Centre, with lunch provided. Please find below a summary of the review from Nicky. We do have a much more detailed 4 page document which we can e-mail to you if you would like a copy but copies of this document will be available on the day.
Please e-mail me at doris@bmecp.org.uk to request a copy.
We hope that as many of you as possible will attend so that the needs of BME communities are captured during this review. Please confirm whether you are able to attend the meeting so that we can provide enough food. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the office.
Yours sincerely
Doris Ndebele

Strengthening Communities Review
Brighton and Hove City Council are in the middle of reviewing a wide range of work which is carried out by groups and organisations like yours (this is called the Strengthening Communities Review).
The review is looking at the ways in which the Council and other organisations in the city carry out community engagement with individuals, communities of interest and identity and neighbourhoods.
As you may know the City Council considers community engagement to be an important part of its work in the future. Engagement will inform both the commissioning and delivery of services.
The review will include an evaluation of the funding for existing commissioned engagement activity which will come to an end in April 2011.
Two important areas of this work include the representational work led by the Community and Voluntary Sector Forum (including the work of the Stronger Communities Partnership, its sub-groups – Stronger Neighbourhoods Group and Equality Coalition - and Stronger Communities Programme), and the community development support to neighbourhoods.
The review is now underway and will conclude with a report in mid October.
If your organisation is involved in community engagement we would like to hear from you.
